The technological leader in low-cost sensor-to-Internet interfaces.

Sensor Synergy provides insights into important industrial assets that directly impact performance and profitability. We provide an easy-to-deploy, sensor data acquisition platform that arms site managers and engineers with real-time information. These insights can eliminate blind spots in resource utilization and identify gaps between “by the book” human-centric processes and what is happening on the production floor.

As a special customer request, the NEEM-2 shown here was installed in a NEMA enclosure. This is not normally included with our product.

About Sensor Synergy

Sensor Synergy, Inc., founded in October 1999, is a U.S. corporation dedicated to simplifying the task of connecting sensors to the Internet and local networks. The company is headquartered in Vernon Hills, IL, where it houses its hardware and software development labs, as well as technical support personnel. Manufacturing and final assembly operations are completed at a nearby facility in a Chicago suburb.

Long before the term “Internet of Things” (IoT) became popular, Sensor Synergy was pioneering solutions in what is now known as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The company has the experience and proven technology to rapidly enable IIoT solutions in industrial settings, whether on equipment or for process monitoring. Sensor Synergy’s smart sensor interfaces are custom-configurable to meet customer requirements, simplifying the connection of sensors to Ethernet and wireless networks. These interfaces work “out-of-the-box,” eliminating the need for user programming or custom software.

The company’s expertise in sensor hardware technology and custom software solutions has led to cost-saving answers to long-standing industry problems. Key offerings include the Network Enabled Equipment Monitor (NEEM) and Watts Aware systems. NEEM provides valuable data on ongoing operations and alerts users when conditions exceed limits, with simple installation and lower costs compared to competitive technologies. In 2025, Sensor Synergy launched its second-generation product, the NEEM 210, offering higher performance and greater capabilities.

NEEM units can interface with almost any analog sensor technology, making them suitable for many specialized remote monitoring applications. If you have such an application, contact us to discuss.

Sensor Synergy has received several industry accolades for its innovative solutions. The American Foundry Society awarded the company the prestigious “Applied Research Award” at the 118th annual MetalCasting Congress, recognizing the NEEM technology for its practical research and rapid application in metalcasting facilities. Additionally, the NEEM-112 product received a “Best of Sensors Expo” award for its potential to change the future of sensor-enabled designs, serving a real need, and being highly distinctive from other industry offerings. Sensor Synergy has also developed private label solutions for major technology resellers.

Dr. James Wiczer, the founder and CEO, has been instrumental in the company’s development. With over fifteen years of R&D in sensors and automation, Dr. Wiczer holds six U.S. patents and has published over 80 articles. His background includes technology and management roles at Sandia National Laboratories, where he led the Robotics and Automation Department and the Microsensors R&D Department.

In addition to the main sensor-to-network interface, Sensor Synergy offers two packaged systems to simplify application in the most popular applications:

  • Watts Aware™ is a comprehensive tool for monitoring electrical power usage. It offers real-time tracking and easy installation without any interruption of power. The Watts Aware package includes everything necessary to monitor up to five machines.
  • Air Aware™ enables aggregate leakage determination for an entire compressed air system. No additional equipment is required to monitor the health of automation systems based on compressed air.
