The Watts Aware solution package enables users to monitor and record the approximate power usage of large industrial equipment. This product makes and records a new measurement every second for up to 10 years. All data is stored in the NEEM-2 data acquisition unit. The data can also be stored – at the user’s option – in Sensor Synergy’s cloud server.

The Watts Aware package includes all necessary software, 3 AC split-core current transformer “sensor clamps,” the NEEM-2 Data Acquisition unit, a Wireless Adapter, Wired Network connection,  power supplies, and necessary cables.

In order to simplify the setup, these power measurements utilize the boiler plate value for power factor and generally provide a power value within 5% of the true value.

The trade-offs for making power measurements are the difficulty of the installation, the cost of the monitoring solution, the difficulty of retrieving the measurement data, and the accuracy of the measurements.

Why Track Power Usage?

Power usage almost always reflects the work activity of equipment or a process. In some ways, it is similar to the heartbeat of the monitored equipment. More power usage often means the equipment is more active and working harder. When zero or small levels of power are measured, it usually means that the equipment is in an idle state and unproductive.

Tracking power usage for hours, days, weeks, or months can be very informative. Even a quick review of the power use data can provide insights regarding how much a machine (or a shift) is working, how many dollars are being expended to keep this machine producing at your facility, and whether or not a machine needs to be serviced.

Do It Yourself

The NEEM-2 is intended to be a Do It Yourself (DIY) installation and setup remote monitoring system. Basic skills found in most manufacturing facilities will be needed to set up the NEEM-2 at your facility.
